British clothing company Fat Face is taking over a part of River Island’s former unit at Centre:mk in Milton Keynes to create an expanded presence in the shopping centre.

The new store will occupy 2,927 square feet on the ground floor and 1,700 square feet of first floor space, and stock the brand’s full range of relaxed fashion inspired by its founders’ love of skiing.

The upsize was facilitated by the expansion of River Island’s store on the Midsummer Arcade. The new 20,000-square-foot River Island store doubled the retailer’s presence in the mall, transforming it into a regional flagship store.

Centre:mk is also preparing for the hotly anticipated Primark store opening in Spring 2019. The Irish clothing chain will open one if its biggest stores in the UK at the centre, occupying an extension of the former BHS store on Silbury Arcade. It will also be the largest new store to open in Centre:MK in the last 25 years.

Coffee shop Patisserie Valerie, candle store Yankee Candle and Virgin Holidays have all recently endorsed the retail scheme, which has received £60 million of enhancements over the last two years, including the £10 million refurbishment of Sunset Walk.
