eBay’s UK business has a new man at the helm, with Murray Lambell taking over as general manager. He replaces current boss Rob Hattrell, who has been promoted to be head of eBay Europe.

Lambell has had a long career at the online marketplace. He first joined eBay’s office in Zurich in the loyalty and retention department in 2008 and was promoted to head of business for eBay Europe in 2010.

Currently, he is vice-president of UK trading, where he is responsible for all of eBay UK’s business-to-consumer and sales and operations activities.

The company said his appointment comes at a pivotal time, with the global pandemic encouraging thousands of small and medium-sized businesses to join the platform as a way to drive online sales. Platform usage also soared during the lockdown and millions of new buyers tried the site for the first time.

Lambell said: “I am delighted to be taking over the reins at eBay UK, which is an incredibly exciting business in normal times, and is proving to be an even more significant business in this developing ‘new normal’.”

He added: “I am hugely energised by the opportunities and challenges that inevitably lie ahead, and look forward to steering eBay UK through an exciting period of change and growth.”

The management changes take place five months after the arrival of eBay’s new global CEO Jamie Iannone, who is focusing on delivering a technology-led reimagination by building “compelling next-gen experiences”.
