Zandra Rhodes to design homeware line with Ikea

Published
Jun 7, 2019

British fashion star Zandra Rhodes is teaming up with Sweden’s Ikea to create a homeware collection marked by patterns and colours.

Zandra Rhodes - Ikea

The legendary designer, whose 50-year career will be the subject of a new exhibition opening at the Fashion and Textile Museum in September, is known for her use of bold prints, colour combinations and punk aesthetic.

Ikea said the collaboration will see them explore a variety of local pattern cultures from across the globe to put them into the home context through the seasons.

“At Ikea we are curious to deep dive into what makes a home feel like your home. And we know that patterns and colour add fun, energy, mood, atmosphere and personality to a space. Therefore we want to explore how to make textile prints and patterns more contemporary and connected to local cultures. And who better to do this together with, than the experienced, ultra-creative fashion designer Zandra Rhodes?”, said Nils Larsson, creative leader at Ikea Range and Supply.

Zandra Rhodes, who in addition to being a designer is also a lifetime patron of Graduate Fashion Week, said: “Pattern and colour have always been two mediums synonymous with my work and are mostly associated with my fashion designs.

“I hope to bring my passion for textiles, print and colour to this global market drawing inspiration from my distinctive style and love of travel.”

The company has not revealed further details on the collection’s release date, but this is not the first time it has joined forces with the luxury world to reimagine its Scandinavian home products. Last year, Virgil Abloh, chief executive officer of cult brand Off-White, released a special collection with Ikea starting with a pre-launch drop of limited-edition rugs.

The homeware business has also previously partnered with fragrance brand Byredo, fashion stylist Bea Åkerlund, and Parisian concept store Colette.
