The popular East London shopping destination, which houses well-known brands including Victoria’s Secret, Primark, Topshop and John Lewis, said it has welcomed more than 323 million visitors since its opening in 2011, generating retail sales of more than £7.4 billion over the seven-year period.

“We are very proud to reach another UK first at Westfield Stratford City with footfall topping 50 million in twelve month,” Michel Dessolain, COO Europe for Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said.

“It is fitting that a destination at the heart of the Olympic legacy story continues to break records. Expectations for future growth are very strong with an estimated £22 billion to be invested by 2027 bringing more retail, homes and offices, as well as cultural and learning institutions to the area.”

Since the centre opened, homewares sales have increased by 65.6%, and health and beauty sales have surged by 54.7%. Popular beauty brands and retailers at the mall include Boots, Lush, Kiko Milano, Mac Cosmetics and NYX, as well as makeup brands Morphe and Too Faced, which opened their first UK stores at the centre last month.

Additionally, jewellery sales have increased by 47% since 2011, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield said.

Meanwhile, Westfield centres in White City and Stratford welcomed over 910,000 visitors during the Black Friday weekend - up 7% on the previous year.
