Very Group continues deep dive into tech, names data chief
Sep 29, 2020
As data become ever more important in a digitally-driven world, e-tail giant The Very Group has named Steve Pimblett as its chief data officer (CDO).
It’s interesting that a data speciality doesn’t have to come with direct experience in fashion retail given that the data knowledge itself is so very important. Pimblett joins the company from Wejo, which is a UK scale-up behind technology used in connected cars.
Most recently he held the dual role of CDO and chief information officer (CIO) at the firm, which has tie-ups with General Motors, Daimler and Hyundai. Before that, he was CDO at Betsson Group, which is a NASDAQ-listed online gaming company. And he was general manager of data at moneysupermarket.com.
Very said he'll now report to CTO Andy Burton and will oversee all-things-data at the group, including strategy, science, analytics and engineering.
The company has been one of the most proactive fashion e-tailers to dive deep into technology in recent years and Pimblett’s post is clearly a crucial role at the company.
Pimblett said it’s an exciting time to join the group, “which has an ambitious vision for the future, and is growing as more and more UK consumers shop online”.
Meanwhile CTO Burton said his experience “will let us further build our data capabilities to give our customers the best, most relevant experiences and help us make even faster, better decisions”.
