Uniqlo launches global Next Generation Development Program for sports and creativity

Fast Retailing’s Uniqlo is doubling down on its sports and general motivational ambitions and has announced the launch of its Uniqlo Next Generation Development Program.

Uniqlo

It’s described as “a unique new global effort by the company, designed to help young people around the world become their very best through sports and creativity”.

Its global brand ambassadors Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori, Shingo Kunieda, Gordon Reid, Adam Scott and Ayumu Hirano will lead a series of activities “with the goal of inspiring and supporting young people everywhere as they grow into tomorrow's leaders”.

The program is intended to “strengthen our commitment and support toward the next generation of youth,” Senior Executive Officer Koji Yanai said. “Together with our global brand ambassadors, partners and sports organisations, we look forward to continue to generate a positive impact toward their future with learning opportunities through sports and creativity”.

Those sports organisation include the Japan Football Association (JFA), Japan Tennis Association (JTA), Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) and Swedish Paralympic Committee (SPC), among others.

With the company aiming to “contribute to society, providing young people with opportunities to interact and learn from elite athletes”, the events being staged combine sports coaching and mentoring with education on topics like sustainability.

The company staged a pilot event in London during the Laver Cup in September with Federer on board. It said this was a “huge success and both parties have now committed to continue and grow this initiative for future clinics that will take place at the next Laver Cups. Discussions are now under way to host similar inspirational clinics in other parts of the world”.

Uniqlo is also “currently in development with” Federer to create an “exciting and unique global program that reflects his personal goals and future interests, as well as mutual interests in tennis, creativity and culture”.

More events with the other ambassadors under the program are also taking place this year globally with plenty also planned in spring and summer 2023.
