Tod’s Group has a new creative director: Diego Della Valle has chosen Milanese designer Walter Chiapponi to head style for the label’s men’s and women's collections starting from the Fall/Winter 2020-21 season, arriving at stores next autumn.

“Walter Chiapponi is a talented Italian designer, knowledgeable about Tod's Italian style and capable of rendering it with a contemporary feel, without losing sight of the high level of quality and craftsmanship typical of the brand’s DNA,” said Della Valle.

Chiapponi began his fashion career at the end of the 1990s, after graduating from Milan’s Istituto Europeo di Design. After a stint at Givenchy in Paris, in 2007 he returned to Italy, where he worked for labels like Valentino, Gucci, Miu Miu and Bottega Veneta.

“It is a great honour to be able to work for this group,” said Chiapponi in the press release announcing his appointment, adding, “Tod’s has always been synonymous with the highest level of Italian quality and style worldwide. Being able to help develop further its typical Italian style is for me both a challenge and something I’m proud of.”

Before Chiapponi, the creative directors at Tod's were Alessandra Facchinetti for womenswear (from 2013 to 2016) and Andrea Incontri for menswear (from 2014 to June 2019).
