Independent retailer The Fragrance Shop has partnered with Klarna, a payments provider, to launch a Pay Later service for shoppers who prefer to receive their products before paying for them.

This is the first time Klarna has signed a deal with a fragrance retailer, but the European payments provider already works with some of the UK’s most popular brands including Asos, Topshop and JD Sports. In total, 90,000 UK merchants have adopted the company’s payment solutions.

Luke Griffiths, general manager at Klarna UK, said: “We know that a fragrance can be a considerable investment, and so by helping consumers purchase their perfumes as and when they need them, we can help improve that shopper experience.

“Our latest research into the beauty industry shows that 20% of shoppers who buy cosmetics online think payment options to spread the cost of big purchases would improve their shopping experience, so we know that this is a growing demand in the beauty sector.”

The Fragrance Shop is one of the UK’s largest independent retailers. It sells perfumes from over 130 brands including Dior, Lacoste, D&G and Hugo Boss through its 200-strong high street network and online shop.

“Helping our customers find the easiest and most suitable way to shop with us is integral to our success, and we do everything we can to offer our customers an outstanding service and experience. By partnering with Klarna, we’re removing a significant barrier on the path to purchase and empowering our customers to buy their favourite scent so they can spray a little happiness however and whenever they want,” said Ian Harrison, e-commerce director at The Fragrance Shop.

The Pay Later open will allow shoppers to pay 30 days after delivery with no interest or fees.
