Where better to highlight its latest Frayme Mylo handbag than at Paris Fashion Week? An all-white version of the bag featured in Stella McCartney AW23 runway show, becoming the first time producer Bolt Thread’s pioneering mycelium-based, vegan alternative to animal leather is available for purchase in a shade other than black.

The Frayme Mylo bag outing was first introduced by McCartney as part of the brand’s autumn 2021 collection and again in its summer 2022 show, and it now continues the pair’s association since Mylo debuted in 2017.

“Combining deep science with high-fashion design, the Frayme Mylo showcases the capabilities of this next-generation material” based on mycelium, a “naturally abundant, infinitely renewable root-like structure of fungi”.

The Frayme bag “is a contemporary Stella icon – a bold vegan style re-energising classic brand codes inspired by the iconic Falabella tote”, the pair said.

The bag comes with a wraparound aluminium chain strap, zero-waste zamac medallion, and is laced with organic cotton rope and lined with an animal-free, solvent-free Alter Suede made using pre-consumer recycled materials.

“For years now, I have been so excited by Mylo and fungi’s potential to create a future of fashion free from the senseless murder of innocent animals for leather,” said McCartney.

“The Frayme Mylo is the embodiment of that vision, with our new white edition allowing even more Stella women to have the luxury accessories they desire without compromising on their values,” she added.

Dan Widmaier, founder and CEO at Bolt Threads, said: "Stella McCartney and her incredibly talented team of thought leaders and designers have been at the forefront of championing sustainable materials like Mylo for years. Our visionary partnership has inspired a materials innovation movement, paving the way for a more responsible fashion industry. I am excited for everything we'll collaborate on in the future – including this next major milestone of recreating the iconic Frayme Mylo in an exclusive new colour.”
