Sports Direct's Ashley rumoured to take over Belfast retailer

Sports Direct-founder Mike Ashley could soon be making his first major property deal in Northern Ireland, reported The Belfast Telegraph.

Ashley is understood to be about to take over the Donegall Arcade, which has businesses including TK Maxx and HMV and is currently almost fully occupied. He was spotted in Belfast earlier this month.

Ashley is already set to take over Irish discount department store Heatons, which has 10 stores in Northern Ireland. Sports Direct previously owned half of the shares in Heatons and has struck a deal to buy up the clothing and lifestyle retailer.

Sports Direct declined to comment.
