It's not even autumn in the northern hemisphere yet, but British department store retailer Selfridges hasn't let that stop it from opening its Christmas store already.

Selfridges says it's the first retailer in the world to launch its Christmas shop, which is now open, this year. The store will have the theme "Shine On!" and is located on the fourth floor of Selfridges' London store. It features over 50,000 Christmas decorations already, and later in the year it will expand to add over 70,000 more.

The shop is popular with both overseas tourists and "super-organized" Christmas shoppers who want to plan the holiday well in advance, according to the retailer.

Geraldine James, Selfridges Christmas Home & Decorations Buyer, says: "Despite the summer weather, we're in full festive mode here at Selfridges. We’ve been working on this year's Christmas Shop since Christmas last year. We have so many customers visiting from all over the world and eager to snap up festive souvenirs on their summer holidays, which they can't buy at home. So, we have to make sure we're ready to showcase Christmas decorations they will truly treasure."

"We also have a large number of domestic customers who love to Christmas shop very early in the year to ensure they can take their pick of the very best selection available, whilst all collections and product are available."
