Schuh links with Startle for in-store music and digital signs

Schuh is working on launching tailored background music and digital signage across its 136 stores in the UK, Ireland and Germany with technology and music provider Startle.



The retailer’s Schuh and Schuh Kids areas will feature two distinct personalities that will complement each other, creating a memorable and consistent experience for in-store customers.

The digital signage will show promotions based on a variety of factors, including store location, time, date and the customers in-store, adapting instantly at the touch of a button. Meanwhile, the company’s music programme will be overhauled to ensure the most suitable, up-to-date soundtracks are in place. 

This is all part of a partnership with Startle, which has been appointed by Schuh to develop a tailored digital solution for the next five years. Commenting on the partnership with Schuh, Startle CEO Andy Hill, commented: “Many companies are cautious of incorporating too much technology in the fear of losing human interaction. What we aim to do is utilise it in a unique and personal way to enhance customer experience and create memorable moments.

“We are looking forward to a successful partnership with Schuh, helping to create a memorable, positive shopping experience for its customers.”

The use of background music is also expected to help Schuh increase customer dwell times and spend, while the digital signage will provide a new way for the retailer to interact with its customers.
