Amazon’s Prime Day continues its meteoric rise, with the shopping event’s 2019 version generating more global sales than Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined.

Held on July 15 and 16, the annual shopping holiday is exclusive to Amazon Prime subscribers and offered many special-edition products, Lightning Deals and the opportunity to pre-order Lady Gaga’s new Haus Laboratories beauty collection.

Amazon said it sold more than 175 million items throughout the two-day event, which was also the fastest Prime Day ever with millions of items delivered in one day or faster.

“Every year, we look forward to offering Prime members great deals  across everything they need from homeware and fashion to the latest in tech and  our own devices,” said Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager, Amazon.

“This year we’re thrilled that members in the UK had access to more deals than ever before, helping make Prime Day 2019, the biggest global shopping event in Amazon history.”

In the UK, a record number of Prime members shopped during the 48 hours of Prime Day 2019 versus any other two day period. The best-selling categories were wine, beauty, PC and home, and best-selling deals were the Sony PlayStation Classic Console, Oral-B SmartSeries Electric Toothbrush, and Shark Vacuum Cleaner.

A Prime member in Newcastle received their purchase just 12 minutes and 6 seconds after placing the order, and a further shopper was delivered an order in 13 minutes and 43 seconds.

Across the world, China was the most beauty-focused market, with all three best-selling deals (Dove Exfoliating Scrub, L’Oreal Rejuvenating Eye Cream, and  Silk’n Permanent Hair Removal Device) coming from this category.
