Intu Merry Hill’s multi-million-pound transformation has engaged the interest of yet another tenant. Primark is the latest brand to announce an expansion within the shopping centre, following River Island, Topshop and JD Sports.

Primark will move into a former BHS store and upsize its presence at the mall by more than 70%, announced Intu on Thursday. Work has already begun on the new store, which will have a sales space of 60,000 sq ft.

The expansion reinforces Intu Merry Hill’s already strong credentials as a major super regional shopping destination. The centre is one of the largest in the UK and has recently seen upsizes from River Island, Topshop and Topman, and JD Sports.

Next will also open a state-of-the-art new flagship store at Intu Merry Hill this year. The store will feature a Lipsy space, showcase Next’s full homeware offer and include a coffee shop.

Nick Round, regional managing director at Intu, said: “An increasing number of retailers are investing in new space at intu Merry Hill, reflecting the genuine confidence in the destination as a place where brands can really flourish.

“We’re looking forward to attracting even more great brands and creating compelling experiences for customers across the midlands as our plans for Intu Merry Hill progress.”

Intu Merry Hill is undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment, covering everything from the centre’s entrances, malls, shopfronts and toilets. Additionally, a 150,000 sq ft leisure extension will be built creating a restaurant quarter.
