Xupes, an online retailer of pre-owned luxury items, has announced the opening of its first retail store in the UK by the prestigious Royal Exchange in the heart of the City of London.

The store will be adjacent to Hermès and Louis Vuitton, two of the numerous luxury brands which are available on the platform.

Xupes, which was founded in 2009 by entrepreneur Joseph McKenzie and his father Frank, said the decision to open a retail store comes after seeing strong interest from customers to interact with the items before making a purchase.

In fact, over 50% of customers visit the company’s Hertfordshire-based showroom before purchasing, Xupes said. Co-founder Joseph McKenzie explained: ““We are extremely excited to be launching our first retail space in the UK in such a prominent location... We think it’s a proposition that really resonates with a lot of people."

The store will focus on the retailer’s pre-owned collection of watches, handbags, jewellery and artworks, stocking a curated range of brands such as Rolex, Hermès, Chanel and more. All products are rigorously vetted for provenance and authenticity, and meticulously serviced and prepared in the firm’s in-house workshop.

The retail expansion follows the opening of a pop-up concession in de Bijenkorf’s flagship store on Dam Square, Amsterdam in August. Xupes has also opened an office in mainland Europe in Amsterdam’s wealthy “oud-zuid” district, which acts as a by-appointment retail space and an office for the expanding team.
