Coming after a successful first collection in the autumn, the new People Tree x V&A collection consists of six contemporary pieces with floral prints inspired by Arts & Crafts movement. The designs take cues from the works of English textile designer William Morris and Charles Voysey, whose creations are held in the archives of the V&A.

Their floral designs have been reworked in a modern palette of colours for a contemporary twist. The Bold Grafton print, drawn from a wallpaper pattern designed in 1883 by William Morris, informed three new People Tree designs, including a boiler suit, a shirt dress and frill shirt.

Meanwhile, a furnishing fabric originally designed by Voysey in the 1920s has been reinterpreted for a feminine ruffle dress, open back frill top and skirt.

All items are made of 100% organic cotton and handcrafted by Indian producers and social organisations Creative Handicrafts and Rajlakshmi.

The first People Tree x V&A collection launched in July 2017 and celebrated the depth of pattern in the museum’s archives. The partnership between the museum and the clothing brand is part of new efforts to make the museum’s works of art more accessible, and joins a similar collaboration with lingerie brand Coco de Mer.
