Berghaus owner Pentland Brands has launched a new ethical trade app designed to educate employees on the risks of modern slavery and make it easier for them to report any potential issues.

The app, entitled ‘Everyone’s Business’ is a smartphone tool developed in collaboration with  sustainability and corporate responsibility consultancy Carnstone Partners.

Pentland, whose portfolio of sports, outdoor, and footwear brands also includes Speedo, Ellesse and Canterbury, said the app can be used by merchandisers, quality manager, buyers and employees who frequently visit suppliers.

It can capture users’ observation and relay any concerns to a dedicated in-house corporate responsibility team to encourage responsible labour sourcing.

Sara Brennan, head of corporate responsibility at Pentland Brands, said: “Whilst there are other freely available apps that provide information on supply chain ethical trade issues, what’s unique about Everyone’s Business is that it facilitates a two-way conversation between us and our supply chains.

“We’re really proud to be helping our colleagues to understand, identify and report ethical trade issues as they arise. It allows our colleagues to speak up if they have concerns, in a consistent way that’s recordable and transparent."

William Pickett, from Carnstone Partners, added: “Everyone’s Business is an important tool because it offers a way to involve all factory-facing employees on the responsible labour sourcing agenda."

Marks & Spencer, Next and Sainsbury’s have also worked with Carnstone Partners to develop the Everyone’s Business app.
