PFW: Giambattista Valli, natty and naughty with Nike

Published
Mar 6, 2017

There was a mischievous mix in the clothes at Giambattista Valli this season as he mingled his haute romanticism with sporty chic. One pair of leggings even read 'Drip Dry,' while the Nike swoosh sign was apparent on the thigh of another pair of runner’s Lycras, worn with a Tudor earl’s astrakhan tunic studded with pearls. A Valli classic – seeing as the designer perennially wears a pearl necklace himself.

Valli has always loved a frilly boudoir look. He is the master of seduction – which has won him a huge following among the It Gals who populate the social pages of important editions of Vogue, whether princesses Charlotte of Monaco or Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis, Russian social influencer Miroslava Dima or Internet fashion businesswoman Lauren Santo Domingo of Moda Operandi fame. All sat front row.

His multi-ruffled semi-sheer dresses – many with tulle mini-corsets – were all great, as were his white cocktails embroidered in sequinned strawberries and double cherries, just like the logo of the giant Ibiza disco Pacha. Slightly odd that, as Valli religiously vacations every summer in Positano, Italy.
