The new store was opened by Woolrich Japan, an umbrella brand co-founded with Japanese technical outdoor-wear experts Goldwin. The Japanese company acquired a minority stake in Woolrich International in 2017.

The Aoyama store's interior design features modern architecture, and includes a floor-to-ceiling parka wall, a brand heritage archive wall as well as a seasonally-themed video wall.

The new flagship offers a variety of Woolrich apparel as well as a range of knitwear and accessories. In addition, the store currently carries the new Woolrich Outdoor x Goldwin line, and is set to debut a new collaborative collection between Woolrich and British outdoor apparel brand Griffin in early October. Following this release, the brand will also launch a limited edition Fall/Winter collection made in partnership with singer Lauryn Hill.

The Aoyama and Sapporo stores mark the beginning of the brand's five-year Japanese distribution strategy and global brand business plan, which aim to expand the brand from 32 stores worldwide to 50.

Originally founded in 1830, the brand is now owned by Woolrich International and advertises itself as the oldest American outdoor clothing label. Woolrich apparel is currently distributed in 45 countries.
