What could make more sense for surfers than concerning themselves with ocean pollution? Several brands from the industry have already developed initiatives to defend these athletes’ expressive domain. For the spring-summer 2016 season, O'Neill has decided to partner with the organization Parley for the Oceans, which campaigns to protect the seas from plastic waste.

Following G-Star and Adidas, O'Neill is now releasing its own collection made from fabric derived from recycled plastic including t-shirts and shorts. "We are the first surf brand and only the third apparel brand to work with Parley," said European sales director Kees Scholten. "We can use 20% of the plastic that is recovered, but the rest is treated to prevent it from feeding the vortex of plastic that is found in all seas. The collection is positioned with a slightly higher price, but there’s not a big gap."

The shirts will be available for 39 euros, with the shorts available for 59 euros.
