New Stephen Jones exhibition opens in Brighton

Over 160 hats designed by British milliner Stephen Jones will go on display in a special exhibition opening at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton this Thursday.

Considered one of the world’s most important milliners, Jones has had a prolific 40-year career creating hats for catwalk shows and many high-profile clients, including the Duchess of Sussex, Lady Gaga and Grace Jones.

He has also worked with many leading fashion houses and courtiers, such as John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Thierry Mugler, Balenciaga, Giles Deacon, Marc Jacobs and Comme des Garçons.

The milliner opened his first salon in the heart of London’s Covent Garden in the 1980s after gaining recognition in the London fashion scene during its street style explosion in the late seventies.

His designs have continued to maintain a celebrity appeal, with the duchess of Duchess of Sussex and Princess Eugenie recently wearing his fascinators.

Running until 9 June 2019, the exhibition showcases some of his most famous designs throughout King George IV’s Indian-style palace, which became a source of inspiration for the milliner and inspired his Spring/Summer 2012 Chinoiserie-on-Sea collection.

The exhibition is sponsored by luxury department store chain Harvey Nichols and co-curated by Jones with Martin Pel of the Royal Pavilion and Museums Brighton and Hove.
