Among the 115 companies named on Friday by UK government for failing to pay their workers the National Minimum Wage is Monsoon Accessorize, the British retailer that offers folk-inspired fashion and high street accessories.

The retailer failed to pay £104 thousand to nearly 1,500 workers - Monsoon

According to Business Minister Nick Boles, Monsoon neglected to pay £104,507.83 to 1438 workers. In total, the 115 companies named, which span sectors including hairdressing, retail, education, catering and social care, owed workers £389,000 in arrears.

In the UK the national minimum wage was raised in October to £6.70 per hour for people aged 21 years old and over. To increase compliance with minimum wage legislations, the government introduced in October 2013 a naming and shaming programme.

Employers who pay workers less than the minimum wage not only have to pay back arrears of wages at current minimum wage rates, but also face financial penalties of up to £20,000.
