PARIS - Out with the polka dots! Nothing less than specially designed Lanvin gowns will do for Minnie Mouse, who makes her haute couture debut on Saturday at Disneyland near Paris.

Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz, the creator of the outfits, says he always saw in Minnie a hidden "fashionista". One of the gowns is studded with mirrors and jewels.

"It's a first in the history of a Disney character," said Disneyland Paris of the event, in which Minnie will close a fashion show featuring a total of nine designers.

Mickey Mouse's innamorata, who made her screen debut in 1928, usually sports pink or red dresses with large white polka dots.

She has never been seen in svelte designer gear - her preferred style so far being the girl-next-door look.
