Grosvenor said in a statement on Tuesday that the initiative will help it meet the changing needs of tenants, residents and visitors as well as achieve sustainability goals.

Hema Selvaraj will lead the team as innovation director, having over 15 years of experience developing and adapting the operational, digital and commercial capabilities of businesses including Tesco, The Disney Store and Glanbia.

The London landlord has already tested a number of innovations, including launching a Retail Concierge Service for small independent businesses and a partnership with Plug and Play, which connects businesses with tech start-ups.

The innovation team will also pick a number of technologies and projects for investment.

Sam Monger, director of strategy & research at Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, said: “The needs of our residents, customers and tenants are changing rapidly, and we need to be more competitive and agile to ensure we remain a commercially, socially and environmentally sustainable business.

“From improving air quality and the sustainability of our developments to continuing to attract businesses, retailers and customers to our destinations, innovation is one of the biggest levers we have.

“We have already made a great start, with over 130 ideas generated internally and 27 live innovation projects in progress.  With Hema on board, our new innovation team will encourage the business to think and act differently, creating the foundations for another 300 years of success and a lasting and positive legacy for our communities.”
