Jones Bootmaker closes nine stores

Footwear chain Jones Bootmaker has closed nine stores nationwide as part of a business review in a move to reverse its fortunes.

Jones Bootmaker has been on the UK high street for 160 years

The 160-year-old company, acquired by private equity firm Endless through a pre-pack administration in March, has shut down sites in High Wycombe, Newbury, Sheffield, Camberley, Taunton, York, Ipswich, Hereford and Stratford.

A spokesperson for Jones Bootmaker told Insider that some stores “just aren’t viable,” but there is a new management team in place tasked with driving future growth. The team is “investing heavily” going forward and has launched a store re-fit programme that will transform every store in the portfolio by the end of the year.

The company is also investing in infrastructure, IT systems and its e-commerce platforms.

The store closures resulted in the loss of 26 full-time jobs. The spokesperson said it is “impossible” to know if there will be more changes. "Every day things are changing, which you'd expect as part of a transformation programme."

Endless owns 72 Jones Bootmaker stores across the UK.
