JD Sports said Rubin's experience of brand development outside of Europe will be of use to JD Sports continued global expansion. In addition to being the Pentland Brands Chairman, Rubin is also the European Vice-President of the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry.

Peter Cowgill, Executive Chairman, commented: "I am pleased to announce that Andy has agreed to join the Board. His experience of managing and developing brands internationally will add to our Board as we continue the international expansion of the JD brand." Pentland Brands owns a 57.47% stake in the Group.

JD Sports is on something of a roll at the moment - last month, January, the company announced that it expects full-year profit above market expectations after a "very strong" Christmas, sending its shares to an all-time high. The company expects headline profit before tax and exceptional items to exceed current consensus market expectations of £136m by up to 10% for the current financial year.
