Melissa-Kate Newitt, an MA Designer from the Jimmy Choo JCA London Fashion Academy, has received the British Designer Award from Northern Fashion Week's (NFW) organisers.

The NFW, curated by the team behind New Talent Fashion to champion northern talent and develop northern industry, presented her with the award for her collection ‘Love of Venus PT.II’, presented at NFW in July.

Following the capsule, she presented the third part of the collection at JCA’s London Fashion Week show in October, which served as an official launch for her Melissa-Kate brand.

The 24-year-old designer, who graduated in October as part of the first cohort of Fashion Entrepreneurship in Design and Brand Innovation students at the Jimmy Choo Academy in London, described her label as “a world where the patriarchy doesn’t exist, influenced by the power of the divine feminine energy through witchcraft and pin-up style, hand-crafted by a female for the feminine.”

She said of her award: “It is an honour to receive… especially so close to where I grew up, as it is a recognition of all the work I have put into my brand this past year and the personal growth I have experienced since I left my hometown to pursue my dream in London.”
