Ivanka Trump brand continues to thrive despite boycotting, trademark scrutiny

Published

Despite trademark scrutiny and retailers boycotting the Ivanka Trump label, the President’s daughter’s brand continues to thrive.

The sales of the Ivanka Trump label recently increased by 61 percent - Ivanka Trump

Since President Trump has been in office, Ivanka’s fashion brand has filed four new trademarks in Canada and the Philippines. Even though Ivanka stepped down from her fashion company (her brand is in a trust) and the Trump Organization to focus on political obligations, she still has financial control—which has been scrutinized in the media due to federal ethics rules and conflicts of interest.

While several of her trademark applications were filed before her White House duties, there’s the potential that they could be decided on by foreign governments in the midst of her political duties. However, Abigail Klem, President of Ivanka Trump, told FashionNetwork.com, “The brand has filed, updated, and rigorously protected its international trademarks over the past several years in the normal course of business, especially in regions where trademark infringement is rampant. We have recently seen a surge in trademark filings by unrelated third parties trying to capitalize on the name and it is our responsibility to diligently protect our trademark.”

Despite the fact that Ivanka Trump has been the target of activists encouraging consumers to boycott retailers selling her products, the President’s daughter’s brand continues to thrive.

While a handful of retailers including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Burlington and Shoes.com have dropped Ivanka’s fashion line since the anti-trump boycott movement #GrabYourWallet launched on social media in October, G-III Apparel (the company that manufactures and distributes the label’s clothing and accessories) said Ivanka Trump product sales were up 61% in 2016.

Elsewhere, London-based e-commerce website Lyst reported that the brand is performing extraordinarily well, with sales increasing 346% from January to February this year and the Ivanka Trump fragrances was in the number one spot on Amazon Beauty.
