Hugo celebrates its 20th anniversary with a capsule collection

Twenty years is worth celebrating. This fall, Hugo, the contemporary line of Hugo Boss, presents a capsule collection of 20 signature pieces for men and women. Called “Red Never Follows,” the collection will launch first at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann on September 2, and then be available at the Hugo Boss flagship store on the Champs-Elysees and in selected boutiques around the world.

Hugo started its 20th anniversary celebration last January during Berlin Fashion Week with a fashion show in the former central workshops for the city’s Opera companies. FashionMag.com met up there with the creative team of Bart de Backer and Eyan Allen, then the artistic directors of menswear and womenswear, respectively, of the Hugo Boss lines, including Hugo.

Since then, much has changed for the German group, which won’t be taking any of its lines to Berlin Fashion Week again. The womenswear studio has moved to New York, where a Fall-Winter 2015 show will be presented after the label takes a break from showing this season. Englishwoman Eyan Allen has been replaced by American designer Jason Wu, who is in charge of artistic direction for the principal womenswear lines for Boss. Style decisions for Hugo’s womenswear collection will now be made in-house.

Until the end of September, the “Red Never Follows” project is the subject of an exhibit at the Saatchi Gallery in London. The label had called on twenty edgy international artists whose work is now on display in the exhibit.
