Hammerson’s Scottish shopping destinations are preparing to welcome shoppers back as the Scottish Government continues to ease the lockdown.

Subject to the Government’s next review, Union Square in Aberdeen and Silverburn in Glasgow will fully reopen on 13 July, the property group has revealed.

During the lockdown, both destinations’ essential stores remained open, while several stores with outside access reopened at Union Square this Monday.

These include most stores in the shopping park, such as Next and JD Sports, as well as New Look. Stores at Falkirk retail park have also reopened this Monday.

To ensure the safety of consumers, retailers and staff, independent inspection organisation Bureau Veritas has been appointed to analyse and approve the reopening plans.

Additionally, several measures have been introduced to keep everyone safe, including one-way systems, clear signage reminding visitors of the need to follow social distancing guidance, and enhanced cleaning processes.

Hammerson, which owns a portfolio of shopping centres in the UK and Europe, is also using the centre’s social media channels to run a Covid-19 awareness campaign.

The company’s flagship destinations in England were allowed to reopen from 15 June. In Ireland, a phased re-opening of stores, beginning with small retail outlets, also started mid-June.
