International retailer Guess has agreed to open a 3,853 sq ft store at Intu Metrocentre in Gateshead this summer.
The new boutique will add to the premium brand’s portfolio of 12 stores in the South and North West of England, and will be the first space for consumers based in the North East.

The signing follows the opening of Intu Metrocentre’s newest upmarket retailer Boss earlier this month. Other luxury brands at the centre include Flannels, Kurt Geiger and Tessuti.

Kate Grant, regional director at intu, said: "Guess will be the second international fashion brand to launch at Intu Metrocentre this year, reflecting the confidence that exists in the centre and the north east region as a place where overseas and aspirational retailers can flourish."

Intu Metrocentre is the North East’s largest shopping centre, and according to Intu’s 2016 annual report, the owner and operator will be investing around £26 million over the next three years to refurbish the mall and right-size its units.

The shopping destination has an annual footfall of 21 million, attracting visitors from as far afield as Edinburgh.

Retailers include New Look, Zara, AllSaints and Karen Millen.
