A life-size magenta pink teddy bear has taken centre stage at the heart of London’s Bond Street as part of a new artistic instillation to lure visitors to the premier shopping street.

Landlord Great Portland Estates’ (GPE) installation at its vacant 6,000 sq ft 95 New Bond Street site is entitled ‘Nature and Nurture’ featuring contemporary artist Luap’s signature motif: The Pink Bear.

Aiming to provide a “innovative take on the traditional store window display”, the bear is placed within jungle settings, surrounded by flowers.

The artwork “aims to get passers-by to reflect, encouraging change by looking at problems from a different perspective” as the “dynamic poses of the bear suggesting positive movement and personal growth as the world emerges from the pandemic”, GPE said.

The property company said it's increasingly working with artists, and committing to creating spaces and places “which enrich their surroundings and to using creative means to enliven New Bond Street”. This is GPE’s third permanent public art commission in Westminster and its first in Mayfair.

Art instillations are increasingly being used to enliven retail spaces, with nearby Oxford Street also having introduced its outdoor Photographers’ Gallery in recent months.

“Experiences remain essential to the future of retail and GPE is aligning its approach with that of its tenants – creating places and destinations”, said leasing director, Marc Wilder.
