He is joining from Phase Eight, where he has worked as director of online and marketing since 2017.

Frugi is a Cornish brand selling sustainably-sourced organic cotton clothing and accessories for babies, children and mothers.

Last year the business was acquired by private equity firm True, and appointed Hugo Adams, a former senior executive at M&S, as CEO and Julia Reynolds, ex-Figleaves CEO, as chair.

Commenting on Williams’ appointment, CEO Hugo Adams hinted about the company’s international expansion plans.

“I’m delighted that James will be joining us at a pivotal time for Frugi as we continue to invest in international growth. James will play a pivotal role in these ambitious plans, which aim to significantly increase global turnover,” he told The Drum.

Williams cut his teeth at Marks & Spencer, where he began his career on the graduate training programme before joining the retailer’s e-commerce department. He served in a variety of roles across M&S.com, including senior online trading manager for foods.
