British fashion etailer Farfetch, which was started by José Neves in 2008, has just served its millionth customer and opened a new office in Lisbon.

The company revealed that it served its millionth customer at 4.17am GMT 12 August 2016. The customer, from New York, bought a pair of Common Projects boots from 4510 in Dallas, and received a phone call from founder José Neves who gifted the boots to the customer.

Farfetch received its first order on October 2008, from a customer in Italy who ordered a handbag from London. Neves said: "From that day in 2007 at Paris Fashion Week when I dreamed about creating a global platform for the luxury industry, to the launch in 2008 with 25 boutiques in the trenches of one of the world’s greatest recessions, onwards to the vibrant company and community we've built today, it's been an exhilarating journey! And serving our 1 millionth customer feels like a dream and ironically at the same time the start of an even bigger adventure."

Farfetch has operations and offices in 11 cities around the world, and just opened its latest one in Lisbon. The company has seen strong growth lately, with transaction value growing by over 70% in 2015 to more than $500m. Farfetch expects it to reach over $800m in 2016. The etailer also launched as a Global Curator on Apple Music earlier this summer, and Neves was recently named one of the BFC's new non-executive directors and will join the board of the British Fashion Council.
