Shaftesbury and the London College of Fashion have teamed up to help two young tailors establish themselves in the early stages of their businesses.

The ‘Carnaby x London College of Fashion: Kingly Street Tailors’ project will provide a physical incubation space for two LCF graduates on Kingly Street, as well as mentoring and a bursary towards the hire of equipment.

Up-and-coming stars Joshua Millard and Sarah Hollebon have been selected by a judging panel of experts consisting of Harold Tillman; Mark Powell, celebrity tailor; Tom Horne founder of menswear label L’Estrange; and Sam Bain-Mollison, Head of Retail at Shaftesbury, to join the programme.

They will take up residency in their new home on Kingly Street, this summer, and receive a specialist programme of business support from the London College of Fashion. Additionally, Harold Tillman will provide personal mentoring and a bursary.

“Shaftesbury is proud to support and nurture future talent in tailoring, a craftsmanship industry that is at the heart of Carnaby’s heritage,” said Sam Bain-Mollison, head of retail at Shaftesbury.

Linda Roberts, director of business & innovation at London College of Fashion, added: “London College of Fashion, UAL is a pioneer in fashion business support through its Centre for Fashion Enterprise, and we want to ensure a growing and sustainable creative industry to contribute to the UK economy. We are delighted to have this support from Shaftesbury in helping us to nurture our talented graduates in the early stages of establishing their businesses."

And fashion entrepreneur Harold Tillman, who is also chair of the Ethical Fashion Forum and its CO platform, commented:  “The tailoring skills taught to me by London College of Fashion have underpinned my career and I am looking forward to working with the young tailors of the future and imparting my knowledge to help them establish their businesses.”

Joshua Millard graduated from LCF in 2014, and his brand places emphasis on quality of fabric and the majority of the collection consists of natural fibres which respect the environment and animal welfare.

Sarah Hollebon graduated from LCF in 2018 and wants to expose and encourage understanding of social issues by merging tailoring, fashion, art and technology.
