Ellis Brigham eyes store expansion

Published
Apr 5, 2018

Outdoor retailer Ellis Brigham is set to enter new geographies with a series of openings planned for this year following consistent sales and profits growth.

The brand opened a new store in Chelmsford last year

The Manchester-based, family-owned business operates more than 20 stores across the UK, including stores for The North Face.

In documents submitted to Companies House, the brand said revenue for the year ended 30 June 2017 increased to £37.2m from £36.6m, while pre-tax profits were up to £1.78m from £1.6m a year earlier.

The increase was achieved despite the company investing significantly in redesigning and refurbishing its stores, as well as its multi-channel strategy. It plans to launch a new website this year, which will optimise its current integrated offering and help it move ahead of the competition.

Additionally, “new stores are planned taking us into new geographies whilst a watchful eye is maintained on our portfolio,” said the report.

"This year's results are the fruits of diligent hard work and investment in both systems and people. We have built a very solid platform from which we can grow further with plans in place for improvements to our online and physical retail spaces,” commented managing director Robert Brigham to Insider Media.

The company sells clothing and equipment from over 100 brands including Gore-Tex, Patagonia, the North Face, Salomon and Arc'teryx. It focuses on outdoor clothing for mountain sports, including skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, hiking and climbing.
