Danish shoe retailer Ecco has expanded its presence at St David’s in Cardiff by moving to a larger store on Upper Grand Arcade.

The new store has been fitted out with a modern industrial feel to echo the brand’s design philosophy and pay homage to its Scandinavian heritage. The new unit is now located near John Lewis and showcases the brand’s full footwear collection.

Commenting on the upsize, Jack Cleary, head of retail operations at Ecco said: “This prime location attracts the high-volume footfall we desire when selecting our store locations, and this was important when deciding to expand our presence at St. David’s. We are very excited to once again open our doors to the bustling and lively Cardiff, with a new and reimagined design.”

St David’s is owned by the St David’s Partnership, a joint venture between Landsec and Intu. Colin Flinn, Intu’s regional managing director - west, said footwear brands are an important part of the mall’s line-up. In addition to Ecco, the shopping centre is home to Clarks, Dune London, Kurt Geiger, Hotter, Size, Sole Trader, Schuh, Shoe Zone and Timberland, among others.

“Ecco’s choice to upsize its unit is a result of its success at St David’s and its commitment to Cardiff,” Flinn said.

One of the UK’s premier retail and leisure destinations, St David’s has an annual footfall of 37 million, and is anchored by Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and the largest John Lewis outside of London.
