A new destination for globe-trotting designer Kim Jones. The creative director of Dior’s menswear will unveil his next pre-collection, for the fall 2023, in Egypt. The Parisian label, which will be organising a show in the African country for the first time, has confirmed the news to FashionNetwork.com, saying the show will be held with “the Giza pyramids as its backdrop,” at one of the world’s most famous historical sites.

Jones has picked a magical setting for the show, the site featuring the majestic pyramids built in the middle of the desert between 2600 and 2500 BC. He has promised he will present a “celestial” collection, a celebration of his “life-long passion for travelling,” as the label indicated in a brief note, without giving further details.

Dior is not the first label to have been attracted by a desert setting. In July, Saint Laurent showed its men’s collection in the Agafay desert of Morocco. And luxury menswear label Stefano Ricci has also chosen Egypt as the destination for its next show. It will stage a show-event to celebrate its 50th anniversary in the city of Luxor.

In the aftermath of two years marked by the pandemic, the fashion industry has resumed its round-the-world travels in style, the most exotic destinations being also the most coveted as venues for spectacular events, a rather jarring choice in these times of sobriety.
