Hailed as ‘one of the brightest, boldest, and most strikingly original talents to come out of London's fashion scene in recent years’  by I-D Magazine, his designs will be featured in three free catwalk shows at the Victoria & Albert Museum on Friday 23 March.

One of his looks will be also on show in the upcoming Fashioned from Nature exhibition, which opens on 21 April.
“We are delighted to be working with one of London’s most talented young menswear designers, John Alexander Skelton as part of our Fashion in Motion programme,” said Oriole Cullen, fashion curator at the V&A.

“His collections frequently take historic and traditional themes and translate them into contemporary narratives, this approach combined with his interest in sustainability, closely mirrors the museum’s own concerns with fashion, particularly with the forthcoming Fashioned from Nature exhibition in which John’s work also features.”

Skelton often works with recycled fabrics, like antique bed sheets and old grain sacks, for his creations. The materials are customised through hand-dying, overwashing, painting and patching, providing a canvas for his creative research.

For the Fashion in Motion presentation, the menswear designer will explore the themes of the Green Man - a traditional folklore figure of rebirth, representing the cycle of growth each spring.

He said: “In my journey as a designer, the opportunity to show at the V&A is of utmost significance. The institution and in particular, The Raphael Gallery, upholds the importance of craft, rarity and theatricality. These qualities are at the heart of my work.”

Skelton joins a long list of Fashion in Motion alumni, including some of the UK’s leading British designers like Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Roksanda Ilincic, Jenny Packham and Grace Wales Bonner.
