Designer clothes and vintage styles boosted sales at charity organisation Oxfam’s online store during Christmas, with Burberry, Barbour, Gucci, Whistles and Boden amongst the site's top search terms.

Sales at the Oxfam Shop soared by 33% in the Christmas trading period, while total retail sales were up 1.2% to £16.9 million, announced the charity group focused on alleviating global property.

Online platforms such as Ebay accounted for 5.4% of Oxfam’s total sales, up from 4.5% last year.

“The rise in Oxfam's retail sales over Christmas, particularly online sales, brings hope for the world's poorest people. Oxfam could spend this extra income in Niger to improve water and reduce malnutrition in 15,000 mothers and their children for one year,” said Andrew Horton, Oxfam Trading Director.

"Sales in our high-street shops remained healthy, despite snow in the run up to the festive period. These shops not only deliver the lion's share of Oxfam's retail income, they are community hubs, vibrant spaces where people work, volunteer, donate, shop and interact.”

Oxfam is planning to introduce a new women’s accessories range as part of the Sourced by Oxfam initiative later this month.
