Denim Première Vision launches its first Hackathon

Published
Apr 25, 2017

In the last few seasons, the Denim Première Vision trade show has drawn the attention of the denim industry on the sector's relationship with fashion and on the purchasing habits of Millennials. In this year's spring edition, held at the Paris Event Center from 26th to 27th April, the show will actually give free rein to representatives of the young generation, and launch its first Hackathon.

The latter is a new type of competition inspired by the creative sessions typically held by software developers. Over the course of the show's two days, five teams will be tasked with creating ground-breaking projects encapsulating a product innovation, a brand concept and a marketing dimension.

Each of the teams will consist of five students, three of them from fashion academies and two from technology schools. The team line-ups will be randomly selected among students from the AMFI (Holland), La Cambre (Belgium), Duperré (France), IED Madrid (Spain), Istituto Marangoni (Italy) and ITU (Turkey) fashion schools. On the technology side, the students will come from the École 42 and HETIC (France) schools.

The teams will be supervised by Stefano Aldighieri of Another Design Studio, Romain Spinali, in charge of innovation at Spinali Design, and by Ariane Bigot, Associate Director in charge of fashion at Première Vision.

"The idea is to be able to show the market what young people want, and allow them to put forward an all-round solution, said Chantal Malingrey, the show's Director. What is interesting about this approach are the intensive work sessions, to generate surprising ideas." The Hackathon is not merely a performance. The team whose work will be selected by a jury of professionals will be awarded a €5,000 grant, and will be mentored by a tutor for six months. The organisers are planning to showcase the project's progress at the event's November edition.
