On Tuesday June 2, PVH Corp. announced that Grieder is leaving the group and Tommy Hilfiger. He has been the US label’s global CEO since 2014, and is also stepping down from his role as head of Europe for PVH Corp., a position he held since 2013.

Tommy Hilfiger described in a press release how Daniel Grieder has contributed to his eponymous label's success: “Daniel’s biggest gifts to our organization have been connecting the brand more strongly with our consumers and building a culture within the organization that is devoted to staying on the cutting edge of product, innovation and culture.”

Grieder has an in-depth knowledge of the workings of the giant US fashion group. He joined Tommy Hilfiger’s European management team 23 years ago, and has been in charge of the label’s business in Europe since 2006. He notably masterminded the development and successful deployment of Tommy Hilfiger’s ‘see now, buy now’ strategy.

To succeed Grieder, PVH Corp. has opted for continuity, picking Martijn Hagman, an executive with a 12-year-plus career in various senior management posts within the group. Hagman, born in the Netherlands and formerly with auditing and consultancy firm Ernst&Young, is currently the COO of Tommy Hilfiger Global and PVH Europe, and the CFO of Tommy Hilfiger Global.

“It has been a phenomenal 23 years,” said Grieder, adding that “as we are in the midst of this seismic shift in our industry, we find ourselves in a unique position to make a change that I believe will launch us into a new era for the brand. It’s a good feeling to know I can pass my seat to Martijn – he’s been a true friend, trusted confidant and reliable co-pilot in the last 12 years of this journey. There is never a perfect moment to leave an organization you love; the options are to leave too late or too early, and I knew I wanted to make this change while still having the optimism, energy and passion I’ve always held on to in my career.”

Emanuel Chirico, chairman and CEO of PVH Corp., hailed the contribution made by Grieder - who hasn’t indicated what his next professional challenge will be - to the group: “Daniel has been a champion of growing our innovation capabilities and expanding Tommy Hilfiger’s reach around the world, always pushing for a consumer-centric, digitally-focused and sustainable mindset, while building a very strong management team.”

A team that will now take over from Grieder, and tackle the challenges of the post-Covid-19 economy. In April, PVH Corp. reported a revenue of $9.91 billion (€9.06 billion) for the financial year that ended on February 2, without making any forecast for the 2020 financial year.
