Berlin Fashion Week to kick off with increasingly dynamic and sustainable lineup

While the Berlin Fashion Week's off-calendar scene seems increasingly dynamic - notably thanks to the innovative event staged by The Network - the German capital's main fashion trade shows, Premium and Panorama, will stick to their formats and venues for the forthcoming edition of the fashion extravaganza scheduled on July 2-4, despite the rumours circulating about former Tempelhof airport as a venue.

The Panorama show, with Xoom and Selvedge Run, will be held as usual at Berlin’s ExpoCenter City, while Premium will kick off with the Show & Order event at Gleisdreieck, and Seek will be staged at the Arena Berlin.

Neonyt, the global hub for fashion, sustainability and innovation, remains at Kraftwerk, while the Fashiontech conference draws closer to Seek, at the Festsaal Kreuzberg venue, not far from the Arena Berlin.

Over the course of three days, buyers attending the Berlin events will be able to discover over 3,000 exhibitors and an even greater number of Spring/Summer 2020 collections.

Nearly 1,000 exhibitors and about 1,800 collections on a 24,000-square-meter area: at the Station-Berlin centre in Gleisdreieck, buyers will have a busy time.

The events will place a special emphasis on sustainable development. Besides the significant increase in eco-responsible brands among the exhibitors, like Ecoalf and Manakaa, a ‘Sustainability Area’ located at the heart of Hall 3 will host round-table debates on the issue on July 2 and 3.

Among the speakers: Artemisa Ljarja (Saubere Kleidung), Martin Höfeler (Armedangels), Henrik Lindholm (Sandqvist), Javier Goyeneche (Ecoalf) and Patrick Andrist of National Geographic channel/magazine. The debates will be moderated by Alec Leach (Future of Dust).

Next door to Station-Berlin, at Kühlhaus, a former refrigerated warehouse, Show & Order will take place on a five-floor, 2,000-square-meter exhibition area, once again positioned as an event specialising in the customer experience, showcasing about 200 brands and collections.

In the meantime, the organisers of Bright are working on a new show concept dedicated to streetwear and skateboarding-inspired apparel.

The Panorama show is transforming its format, with over 500 exhibitors presenting their Spring/Summer 2020 collections across a 30,000-square-meter area.

. PREMIUM GROUP - PANORAMA

Women’s ready-to-wear will be hosted in Halls 1 and 3, and featuring new entries like Nile and Jane Lushka. Close by, Desigual will unveil its new logo. In Hall 3, German label Tom Tailor will present its two new womenswear lines, My True Me and Office by Tom Tailor. In Hall 2, visitors will find classic menswear brands like Alberto, Olymp and Ragman, showcasing both formal and casual collections. According to Panorama's organisers, a fusion of streetwear and classic ready-to-wear is still the market's main trend.

The Selvedge Run event, now an integral part of Panorama, will introduce its new website, while green fashion event Xoom will present a 250 m2 concept store. Designed as a case study, it will provide specific inspiration on how eco-responsible brands can be effectively showcased in-store. The concept store is run by Silke Bücker, a fashion expert from the eponymous consultancy firm. “Green labels must approach their market positioning using the same kind of image and message of all other labels,” said Bücker.

On the agenda at Panorama there are also several industry conferences.

Catwalk shows

During the Berlin Fashion Week, 30 labels and designers will present their latest collections in 16 catwalk shows. This year, the party will kick off with Austrian designer Christoph Rumpf, the winner of the last Hyères Fashion Festival, who will present his latest collection on Monday July 1 at 12 noon. At 2 pm it will be the turn of Danny Reinke and Lana Mueller, and in the evening of Guido Maria Kretschmer and Kilian Kerner (KXXK).

. PREMIUM GROUP - MBFW

The Berlin Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2020 will close with designer Michael Michalsky and the ‘Brothers & Sisters’ couture collection for his label, Atelier Michalsky.

The show calendar will be integrated by other presentations, such as the so-called ‘Growhouses’. The organisers of the fashion week, which is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, are promoting this new event format to promote emerging design talent from Berlin.

Among the other off-calendar shows, those by Marc Cain at the Velodrom on Tuesday night, by Marina Hoermanseder at SEZ in Landsberger Allee, and by Marcel Ostertag at the Westin Grand, on Friedrichstraße.
