Amazon EU chief to step down at end of year

Amazon’s top European executive is leaving at year-end with the current head of devices for Europe at Amazon replacing him.

Xavier Garambois is Amazon’s outgoing vice-president for Europe Retail and has run the firm’s retail and consumer-facing ops for the past eight years. He will be replaced by Jorrit Van der Meulen, The Telegraph reported.

It’s another change at the top of the firm’s European operations only weeks after UK MD Doug Gurr (who reports in to Garambois) announced his forthcoming departure. It’s also another change in the wider Amazon leadership team after Jeff Wilke, the worldwide consumer chief, said last month that he too would step down. He had previously been touted as a future successor to founder Jeff Bezos.

An Amazon spokesman said: “We’ve had and continue to have remarkable retention and continuity of leadership at the company. Like with any company, people leave from time to time for personal or professional reasons — many return to the company.”
