Aaliyah will be the subject of new streetwear collection

The third collection from British designer Elle Azhdari’s The Fan takes the late American R&B singer as its subject. Azhdari debuted the collection at Selfridges in London.

The 11-piece collection is part of Selfridges’s Music Matters campaign and includes a mix of streetwear pieces such as hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets and hoodies, most of which feature Aaliyah’s face -- Instagram/Selfridges

The 11-piece collection is part of Selfridges’s Music Matters campaign and includes a mix of streetwear pieces such as hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets and hoodies, most of which feature Aaliyah’s face. In homage to the late singer, who frequently wore both men’s and women’s clothing, all the pieces are unisex. London DJ Siobhan Bell appears in the lookbook for the collection.

The Fan was launched in 2016 by designer Elle Azhdari and fashion stylist Cristina Aranda-Garzon and releases just three collections a year.

More than a decade after her untimely death, Aaliyah continues to serve as an inspiration to the fashion community. Earlier this year MAC announced it would create a collection inspired by the late singer, to be launched in Summer 2018. At the time of her death in 2001, Aaliyah was just 22.

The Fan Aaliyah collection launches October 4 and is available at Selfridge’s and The Fan’s online store. The pieces are available in limited quantities with no more than 150 of each item produced, and retail for $66 to $1,054.
