United Fairs has recruited a top team of industry insiders to lead the event, including Gary Barbe, previously director of the National Wedding Show portfolio, who will become event director of UK Bridal Week.

Judith Sutton will head up the marketing team, and Susi Rogol and Nardene Smith will take charge of all related publishing.

The first edition of UK Bridal Week is being planned for May 2019 at the NEC in Birmingham, hosting 240 carefully selected collections over three days.

There will be big international brands, including Justin Alexander and Enzoani, as well as a designer label section and areas dedicated specifically to occasionwear, accessories, menswear and childrenswear, said United Fairs.

Additionally, a business advice centre will be created to give retailers and exhibitors the opportunity to meet with experts on a one-to-one basis in a closed, private environment.

Larry Warshaw of Justin Alexander, said: “We are excited to have an early exhibition outside of London. Presently the market has too many competing events over too many weekends. United Fairs has done an excellent job for us in Rome and Essen, accomplishing that essential mix that is key to success, by bringing together popular manufacturers and designers with retailers who are open to buying and are excited about the collections on show. The new UK event and venue should be a win/win for all parties involved.”

Event director Gary Barbe added: “2019 will be life- and business-changing for all of us. The challenge will be met with enthusiasm, dedication, and professionalism – and a thorough understanding of what suppliers and retailers want.”

The event is being modelled after recent research findings on the bridal industry, and will aim to provide a space for exhibitors and retailers to find what they are looking for.
