Intu Lakeside’s affluent customer base and aspirational retail mix has attracted two new tenants, American outdoor brand The North Face and international clothing brand Gant.

The North Face

Intu Lakeside’s owner Intu announced on Tuesday that The North Face has taken a 2,500 square foot unit at the shopping centre – the third within Intu’s portfolio.

Meanwhile Gant has signed up for a 1,900 square foot space as part of its plans to expand across the UK. The brand has 20 standalone locations in the UK and Ireland.

Both The North Face and Gant will join the line-up of premium brands at Intu Lakeside, including Victoria’s Secret and Hugo Boss.

Fergus Patterson, managing director of GANT UK & Ireland said: “Intu Lakeside offers Gant a great combination of high footfall and commerciality along with an affluent and discerning consumer, which is very attractive to us as we execute our strategy to grow our store portfolio across the UK.”

The shopping centre in Essex says 72% of its shoppers are ABC1, the most affluent socio-economic group. Additionally, the new brands will be particularly attractive to 54% of Intu Lakeside’s customers who are aged between 16-44 years old.

Rebecca Ryman, regional director of Intu, said: “The North Face and Gant will be a great addition to what is already one of the country’s most successful shopping centres. Providing our 35 million annual customers with the brands they really want and our retailers with the space they really need is vital. By ensuring our customers enjoy their time with us, and go home happier than when they arrived, we can help our retailers to flourish.”

Intu also planning to create a Nickelodeon-themed family entertainment centre to increase dwell times and expand its leisure offer.
