The Hut Group is planning to spend £50m replicating Acheson & Acheson’s business formula in Europe and the US in the long-term after acquiring the business last week.

Acheson & Acheson has its own skincare brand, Ameliorate - Ameliorate

A British manufacturer for prestige beauty brands, Acheson & Acheson offers an end-to-end service that runs from product design and development, formulation development, international sourcing and product testing to manufacturing, warehouse and distribution.

The company has a 78,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Frome, Somerset and a storage and distribution facility in Trowbridge. These are joining The Hut Group’s portfolio, which also includes a distribution centre in Cheshire and a production and logistics centre in Poland, which brings next-day delivery to continental Europe.

Acheson & Acheson has also its own skincare brand, Ameliorate, with product stocked in leading prestige and specialty retailers including Space NK Apothecary, Selfridges, Boots, Harvey Nichols, Liberty’s and Marks & Spencer.

When announcing the acquisition on Friday, The Hut Group chief executive officer Matthew Moulding said the company will significantly increase the group’s manufacturing capacity. With a focus on beauty and wellbeing brands, The Hut Group owns brands such as Lookfantastic.com, Espa and Glossybox.

“Acheson & Acheson is a truly exciting addition to THG and I am delighted to welcome this very talented team. In Acheson & Acheson, we have made a significant investment and one that uniquely positions THG to make a step change in its innovation, operational excellence and manufacturing capacity,” Matthew Moulding said.

Kenneth Acheson, co-owner and managing director of Acheson & Acheson, added: “I am delighted with this transaction, which will no doubt take Acheson & Acheson to the next level of growth under THG’s expert guidance.”

The purchase price was undisclosed, but it is understood to be worth between £50m and £100m.
