Alistair McGeorge, formerly non-executive chairman, will assume Page’s responsibilities with immediate effect, announced the company on Thursday. He will also lead the process to recruit a successor for the business.

Page leaves Tofs after spending only three years at the helm. The company said he helped “establish Tofs as the much-loved community retailer and a national off-price department store that it is today.”

“The board would like to thank Tony for his significant contribution in helping build Tofs into the business it is today; an exciting platform from which we can accelerate the company’s growth. We wish him all the best for the future,” said Alistair McGeorge.

“It has been a very fulfilling three years with the business. I have loved working with my team, and colleagues across the Company, all of whom are truly unique and at the heart of their communities. The team should feel very proud of the achievements so far and of the great plans in place for the coming years. I wish the whole team well, and I am excited by the prospect of fresh and equally stimulating challenges ahead," added Tony Page.

With 218 stores operating in local markets, Tofs is one of the fastest growing retailers in the UK. It provides its customers, often in smaller towns, access to well-known brands at heavily discounted prices.

The company said it has identified a further 400 UK locations in which it can expand.
