Sainsbury’s is stepping up its menswear offer with the launch of new high-quality, formalwear items at supermarket prices.

The British retail chain has introduced two Harris Tweed men’s jackets in around 10 stores across the UK and launched premium lines such as 100% Merino wool jumpers, in a move designed to tap into the growing demand for men’s clothing.

The Harris Tweed jackets cost £110 and will be showcased alongside a selection of Harris Tweed accessories including flat caps, gloves and wallets.

The collection is only the latest addition to the brand's menswear brand, which has seen 17 new men’s lines launched over the last year. This represents a 33% increase in the range.

Sainsbury’s said menswear sales grew by 13% in the last six months, and the Tu formalwear collections delivered growth of over 40% in the twelve months to September 2016.

“The menswear clothing market is an exciting area of growth. Men are increasingly shopping for themselves and we’re focussed on making it easier and more convenient for them,” says Sainsbury’s Argos commercial director, James Brown.

“We continue to invest in our ranges to ensure that our customers find the great quality and choice they expect from Sainsbury’s and our formalwear collections are proving to be a hit. Our Harris Tweed jackets are a great example of how we’re innovating to ensure we’re offering our customers – male and female – a choice of high-quality products at great prices.”
